On December 6, 2024, Wilbert Vancol and Ralph Martinez were able to obtain a defense verdict on behalf of our client, a gastroenterologist in Volusia County. The case related to the management of a patient with acute biliary pancreatitis. Plaintiff argued our client should have performed an ERCP earlier in the hospitalization. We were able to present testimony regarding the acceptable timeline for performing an ERCP as codified in the Guidelines of the American College of Gastroenterology. In particular, Mr. Vancol and Mr. Martinez presented radiographic that patient’s acute pancreatitis was being caused by a non-obstructing stone as opposed to an obstructing stone. The evidence supported our argument that our client acted timely and within the standard of care. After a 5-day trial, the jury agreed and returned a verdict in favor of our client.
